Qantas Resumes International Flights to South Australia with New Auckland Route

Qantas has relaunched international flights to South Australia, marking the return of services after more than 10 years. The airline has launched a direct, non-stop flight from Adelaide to Auckland, New Zealand, providing a significant boost to tourism and business travel between the two destinations.

The new Adelaide-Auckland route is expected to stimulate both leisure and business travel, bringing much-needed connectivity to South Australia’s tourism sector. This route is the first international service to depart from Adelaide in over a decade, making it a milestone for the state. It is anticipated to attract both tourists and business travelers looking to connect with New Zealand and beyond.

Operating four times a week on Monday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the service will run until May 2026, adding over 30,000 seats to the route. The airline will use its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which includes amenities such as free Wi-Fi. This service offers travelers the chance to explore New Zealand’s offerings while also opening up seamless connections to other global destinations.

Qantas has emphasized the route’s importance in providing greater access to both New Zealand and North America. The launch connects Adelaide to Auckland, which is a key destination for South Australian travelers, thanks to its booming tourism market. Auckland is also a critical hub for those traveling onward to North American cities, including New York. This new connection will reduce travel times, as passengers can now reach New York in approximately 21 hours with a single stopover in Auckland.

The service is expected to attract tourists from New Zealand, where there is already a high volume of outbound travel. The new route is expected to further enhance this growth.

The launch of the new route is also seen as a major economic boost. Tourism in South Australia has been a significant contributor to the local economy, and the introduction of this flight strengthens its appeal as a destination for both international tourists and business travelers. The state’s tourism industry has witnessed an influx of visitors from New Zealand.

Moreover, the service not only benefits outbound travelers but also enhances inbound tourism to South Australia. The connection through Auckland to cities like New York opens up more opportunities for international tourists to visit Adelaide and other key locations in the state.

The introduction of this route comes just after Air New Zealand’s launch of the first-ever Adelaide-Christchurch service, marking another step toward enhancing trans-Tasman travel. Both routes highlight the growing demand for direct international flights and improved connectivity between South Australia and New Zealand, helping tourists explore the beauty of both destinations with ease.

Tourism New Zealand has expressed excitement about the new direct flights, which they believe will improve the travel experience for South Australians. The new services are expected to streamline travel between Australia and New Zealand, making it easier for Australians to visit their neighboring country while boosting South Australia’s tourism profile.

Qantas’ return to international services from Adelaide to Auckland is a significant milestone for both the airline and South Australia. It is set to play a key role in boosting tourism and business connections, contributing to the region’s economic growth and enhancing the state’s global appeal. With more than 30,000 additional seats available on the route, the new service is poised to enhance travel opportunities for South Australians, while making it easier for international visitors to explore South Australia.
